Tradesman issue around rectifying some work
Around a month ago I had a new front door fitted, when we were quoted, it was a package that involved patching up the frame as well (Victorian terrace, original frame etc) instead of replacing.

Came home from work and the door is nice, but it doesn't look straight - because the frame is quite far out.

We raised our concerns and agreed to pay on the agreement the fitter would come back and do some more work to the frame so it looks straight after being given reasonable assurances, the guy does a lot of work locally.

He now won't return texts or calls.

Obviously the first mistake was not holding some of the money back until we were 100% satisfied, that ship has sailed now.

I have the guys business details etc - should I accept I've been mugged off and pay someone else to come in and sort it out or go through the courts?

Obviously I would go round and cunt him in the bastard, but I'm a lover not a fighter (and I'm not very 'ard).

Sent you a boatbook message CM2

Guy doesn't have a voicemail and won't return calls. Going to phone him from another number, record the call and ask him why he's ignoring me.

Maybe leave him a voicemail and explain you just need the weatherboard re-done, there's a better chance of him getting back to you

HH,

Sadly bud once you've parted with money their interest is gone and you're on a loser.

Bite the bullet, live with it, or get it re-done to your liking mate. Chasing the other guy will just wind you up.

Life is and all that..

Gank - they were below the door, I smashed them off as redoing them.

W4 the weatherboard is something that they did and not very well hence I want it redone.

Re: Tradesman issue around rectifying some work
hmm HH tbh I think you've got the best of what you can get for a grand- as the other said, if you wanted it perfect you needed to be be specific about the options - and pay alot more

What about changing the weatherboard at the bottom so its parallel with the door plate ?

I think it looks great overall BTW!

Re: Tradesman issue around rectifying some work
Not a chippy but used to be a smithy. He should have advised you to have a new frame and insisted otherwise unprepared to do a shoddy job.

If he advised you and you didn't fancy paying the considerable extra cost then it is not really his fault because he has tried to make the best of a shit job, then again he is unethical and probably wanted the dough as he should have said no.

There is nothing much he can do as the frame is well out. I would bite the bullet and tell him to do you a good deal and stick a new complete frame and transom in, nice door and will look pucker with new frame. I had a similar solid oak front door with new drake and transom all hardware fitted for 3.5k ouch

Maybe painting the black portion with white paint might make the slope less obvious.

Piston - it's all sealed and weather tight, secure and insulates well, but the base looks shit.

You've been framed

Re: Tradesman issue around rectifying some work
If you had the bottom of the frame fixed I think it would look miles better. Does the door seal actually touch the door sill? From the picture it looks like a massive air leak.
He should have leveled the original sill before installing the door. You're right, a piss poor job.
